For candidates
You've been asked to complete a background check. Here's what happens next.
A background check should never feel like a black box. This page explains exactly what we'll ask for, why, and what your rights are throughout. If anything is unclear, email us — we'll explain it in plain English.
What to expect
01
You receive a secure link
Your employer sends you a private link by email or SMS. Only you can open it — it's tied to your contact details and expires after 7 days.
02
You give informed consent
Before any check runs, you'll see exactly what's being requested, why, and who will see the result. You consent check by check.
03
You verify your identity
Take a photo of your ID and a quick selfie. The whole thing takes under three minutes on your phone.
04
We run the checks
We collect information from the sources you've authorised — Ministry of Justice, Immigration NZ, referees you nominate, and so on.
05
Your employer receives the result
Once complete, your employer sees the report. You can request a copy at any time.
Your rights
You are always in control of your own information.
Right to know
You have the right to see any check we've run on you, request a copy of the result, and ask who has accessed it.
Right to correct
If a piece of information is wrong, you can ask us to correct it. We'll investigate and update the record if you're right.
Right to withdraw
You can withdraw consent at any time before a check completes. The check will be cancelled and your data flagged for deletion.
Right to dispute
If you disagree with a result, you can raise a dispute directly through your candidate portal. We're required to investigate.
